Wins the Big One 2002 Burris Circle Tour Overall Champion
The Jr. 1 Lite class is always full of action and this week was no exception. The front pack of five formed with Alex Stumpf, Tyler Peterson, Dylan Hobbs, Aaron Katzenberg and Ben Stumpf lining up nose-to-tail to pull away from the rest of the field. With two laps to go, Alex Stumpf was still out front with Hobbs right behind. Dylan tried the sling shot move, but Alex had just a little more speed today and crossed the finish line first. Tyler Peterson made a smooth move through lapped traffic to stay just head of Katzenberg and earn the third place finish. Ben Stumpf and Ross Kenseth rounded out the podium. Ben Stumpf was second in the Overall Championship points battle and won the Jr. 1 Lite Class Championship for the 2002 season. Jr. Champ driver, Brian Frieberg, was looking to repeat his winning performance in the 12th Annual Fall Classic at Lake Geneva Raceway. Brian held off a strong challenge to sweep the heat races. At the midway point in the feature, Frieberg was running in front with Mickey Kudlicki making an aggressive move into second. Mickey marched into the lead for 2 laps, then Brian took back the spot, leaving Mickey alone on the outside. Coming across the line, side-by-side was Brian Frieberg, Ryan Marshall, Mickey Kudlicki and Matt Vice. Michael Bilderback, who finished fifth in the feature, won the Jr. Champ Class Championship. Jake Humphrey led the Sr. Lite feature race for 19 of the 20 lap race. Shane Morrissey ran on Humphreys bumper the entire race and on the final lap pulled to the inside to finish in front. Humphrey won the Sr. Lite Class Championship and Sundays performance propelled Morrissey into second place in front of Rich McGill. Jake Humphrey led the Sr. Lite feature race from start to finish. When the Sr. Mediums paired up to reduce the impact of the wind, Brandon Eash and Anthony Danta stretched out the lead to almost a straght-a-way. Eash pulled out of line on the last lap to sling shot past Anthony Danta and wrap up the points lead in the Sr. Medium Class as well as the feature win. Ryan Rockhold stayed out in front of Stan Guess to take the third spot. Eric Frieberg had his hands full with Al Wagner in the Yamaha Sportsman Lite class. At the halfway point, Frieberg had a narrow lead while Mike James and Jake Mogan were in a battle for the third and fourth slots. At the checkered it was Frieberg, Wagner, Mogan and James in first through fourth respectively. Frieberg prevailed as the Class Champion, with Mike James earning second spot for the season. Jessica Brannam, Carly Mandarino and Brian Ellis topped the podium in the Jr. Yamaha class. Carly was the 2002 Jr. Yamaha Class Champion. William Houk, Jr. ran away with the purse for the OHV-F200 class. The battle for second place was intense with Tiffany Wester running out in front Regan Vehring. Tiffany had engine trouble and pulled off in the closing laps, opening the third spot for Greg Schafer. Regan Vehring was the Champion for OHV-F200. The top four in the 4-Cycle Sportsman class were nose-to-tail, side-by-side the entire race. Rounding the final turn J.J. Adams was leading, then Joe Chiapetta spun taking out Denise Kruse and bringing out the red flag. The finish reverted to the last completed lap so J.J. Adams finished first, Bob Chatten took second and Denise Kruse finished third. Denise also repeated as the 4-Cycle Sportsman Class Champion, J.J. Adams was second and Joe Chiapetta earned the third place position the 2002 season. Mackenzie Piller swept the days races in the Jr. Sportsman Champ class and solidified her grip on the top spot for the year. She drove around the outside as George Clos and Dylan Barbosa, the early leaders, were getting tangled up in the last corner. Colton Clevenger stayed out of the fray to finish second and Jessica Kudlicki was third. The Kid Karts closed out
the season with a closely contested feature with Kyle Holden, Travis Sabatka,
Brett Woeckener, and Morgan Schissel taking the top four spots. Other
competitiors were Jacob Bandaly, Jordon Jagielski, Nick Bandaly, Ryan Wykes.
