Circle Tour Results
Proud Papa's Are Part of the Action at the Burris Circle Tour Lake Geneva, Wisconsin Father's Day is an exciting and proud time for Dad's when their kids do well. Skip Gough is no exception as he celebrated three feature victories Father's Day weekend. On Saturday night, son and former Circle Tour Champion, David won the UMARA National Midget feature at Grundy County Speedway. Then on Sunday, son Jay won the Yamaha Sportsman feature and grandson Derrick won the Kid Kart feature races at Lake Geneva. The featured event of the day was the Hat Dash for the Sr. Heavy and Sr. Medium classes. Another of the Father/Son racing teams, Mike and Jesse Fox, both picked up a hat for finishing first or second in their race. Other Hat Dash winners were Anthony Danta (2 hats), Ken Paulson, Rick Simpson, Jamie Rediehs and Jay Gough. Mike Fox also held onto a narrow lead to beat Rick Simpson in the Sr. Heavy feature. The Sr. Medium class made a lot of fathers very proud. Virtually any of the racers had a shot at winning with just one lap to go. Anthony Danta and Josh Stahl ran like they were attached. Stahl made a last lap pass and crossed the finish line inches ahead of Danta. Jay Gough and Jamie Rediehs finished third and fourth respectively. Jacob Humphrey beat up on the Sr. Lite father figure Joe Moser by taking a commanding lead in the race and taking over the series points lead from Joe. Moser, Ricky Johnson and T.J. Mertes gave the crowd a few hair raising moments as they jockeyed for position, often driving 3 wide. The 4 Cycle Sportsman class is full of dad's. J.J. Adams, John Hunley, John Ehlers and Ken Lishamer all race and support other racers in their families. But, the star of the day was Denise Kruse who wasn't about to pull over and let one of the dad's pass her by. Sr. Heavy racer Bob Chatten showed up with his crew chief - daughter Anna, who was on loan from her job as a mechanic with the CART PacWest racing team. Anna was a competitor in the tour for 5 years before moving on to her career as a professional racecar mechanic and crew chief. It's hard to tell who's who in the Slabenak family with three family members racing and a slew of others on the sidelines. Mike Slabenak, Sr. watched as son Mike, Jr. swept the Star Champ class. Son Frank, another busy guy is the crew chief for his wife Linda's Champ Kart, plus Frank James - the grandson - ran in both the Jr. Sportsman Champ class and the Jr. I Lite class. Got all of that straight? Dad, Joe Kliem, crashed out of the Yamaha feature, then held his breath while his son Clint edged out Jessica Brannam to take home his fourth feature win of the year in the Jr. Yamaha class. It was hard to tell who was more excited. Ray Mooi was especially busy on this Father's Day. Ray wrenches for his three kids. Daughter Marly won her first heat race in the Jr. I Lite class. Daughter Gina was the feature winner in the Jr. Champ Class and son Raymond chose Father's Day to move up to the Jr. III class from a successful season in Jr. I last year. Ray held up pretty well in the 90-degree heat. Mike Kudlicki, another busy dad, rooted for son Mickey and daughter Jessica in the Jr. Sportsman Champ class. Son Mickey picked up the win followed by Frank James Slabenak and Sara O'Dell. There was a lot of excitement on the sidelines as 19 dad's lined up to watch the Jr. I Lite feature. Adam Carlson led every lap of the race except the last. As the drivers were coming down the back-stretch, Billy Hulbert edged out Carlson for the lead and Jordon Thiel slipped into second place. Carlson, Ryan Marshall, Tanner Bohlen, and Tyler Peterson rounded out the top 6. Jeff Everts and Matt Atkinson gave their dad's a few more gray hairs as they ran nose to tail for 15 laps. Everts won by a inches to move within 5 points in the season points standings in the Jr. III class. Brian Freiberg finished third and Jimmy Johnson was fourth. The Burris Circle Tour is
proud of all of the families that participate in the series. Karting
is a fun, family sport where every family member contributes to the success
of family teams. The next race for the Burris Circle Tour is Sunday,
June 24th at the Rockford (IL) Speedway. Bring your family out and
