The Burris National Speedway Series Introduction
The idea of forming the Burris National Speedway Series was conceived to fill the ever widening void in oval track kart racing left by the national sanctioning bodies in regional and local racing.  As many of you know, the current national programs have been geared to a very small segment of racers who have the resources to deal with extensive travel costs, three to four day race weekends, and running numerous classes that are made up for no particular reason other than to attract additional entries from the existing participant pool.

For quite some time many of us in the Karting industry have been concerned that the main function of these sanctioning bodies, to promote the sport of karting at all levels and attract new people, have not been doing their job and have been headed in the wrong direction.  Not too many years ago virtually all Karting in the U.S. was under the control of IKF and WKA, but currently, I would estimate that neither officially sanctions more than 10% of the events run throughout the year.  Most oval track programs today are “outlaw” and have no affiliation with these bodies except for the use of some of their tech rules and possibly insurance.  The BNSS was brought about to bring back affordable, competitive racing to the Karting masses and to offer the tracks a program that would benefit both them and the racer.

In 2002 we had 18 regional series throughout the U.S. and over 130 individual “track tire” programs competing under the BNSS banner on a weekly basis on both dirt and asphalt ovals.  Since the program’s inception it has grown at a startling rate and continues to grow (double digit in many instances!) in spite of the economic conditions that have affected the “higher” levels of karting.  The bottom line is the BNSS is reaching out to a whole new group of Karters nationwide! To further showcase our programs we have developed a web site,www.burrisnationalspeedwayseries.com, to post rules, schedules, race results and special events as well as offering national recognition to BNSS participants and tracks. The bottom line is, the BNSS is reaching out to a whole new group of Karters nationwide!

We are looking forward to another great year and are glad you will be part of it.
